July 6–12 ❘ Some Great Thing
Some Great Thing
I don’t need to suffer importantly
like a tragic figure carved in marble
inspiring quiet reflection
and respectful emulation.
I don’t need a desert prophet
to work miracles fit for scripture
or preach sermons generations hence
that hold me up as one with faith
like a planted, propagated mustard seed.
I’d welcome a simple solution,
single cleansing river wash
without formality or fanfare.
But I will endure till God decrees
endurance is done,
till the Firstborn redeems
with a double-portion breathed
from His mouth to my mouth,
His eye’s vision laid bare to mine,
His healing hand laid upon me
with gift of daily resurrection in His image.
