October 12–18 ❘ Chosen Fast
Chosen Fast
Evil falls in an instant—
bridges collapse,
trees shrivel and char,
spirits plummet from grace
to break on earth’s pavement.
Suffering swallows fractured souls
and remains hollow.
Good comes on gradually.
Rivers are spanned by careful,
plotted stretch of steel and stone.
Forests spread from seeds
planted in ash and nursed on fitful rain.
Souls wake up hungry,
struggle to untangle from glut,
and yield to the Potter’s hand
to be remade never-empty,
poured out as glistening oil
of gladness.
