October 5–11 ❘ How Beautiful
How Beautiful
A mountain doesn’t argue her point.
She shadows all in quiet,
pulls gaze as light pours
over peaks and slopes,
draws feet by impulse to mottled
paths where icy trickles flow.
She calls even the timid to climb,
to rise. She welcomes any to summit,
not as one conquered,
but as mother lifting child
to clearer view.
She leaves the sedentary
uncondemned, still invited.
Those who descend
to spread good news
of higher, shining climes
wade through valley
of drifted shadow
with calloused feet
as testament
to something better.
